About Us

Frangipani Trading was set up in 2007 by Heather Sandison and Bridget Gray. Heather and Bridget were inspired to set up the company after spending time travelling and exploring the Far East. They were inspired by the colours, smells and exotic sights they found in countries such as Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam and Thailand and also particularly by the quality of the textiles and fabrics they found in local markets and shops. Along their travels, while browsing through markets and shops they seemed to be constantly, and often sub-consciously, looking for one thing – a good quality silk dressing gown, not too flimsy (so that it would be warm enough in Scotland’s cooler climate but also, being silk, cool in summer), soft and luxurious to wear and in a jewel-like colour to reflect the region. Eventually they found it – in Vietnam – and it had one important extra detail – it was reversible. The gown has a patterned outside and a plain lining that fully reverses making it a 'two for the price of one' item and comes in its own drawstring bag. Frangipani Trading was born!

Heather and Bridget created Frangipani Trading to source good quality silk dressing gowns and nightwear and make them available in the west. They work with designers in the Far East to design products in colours and styles that will appeal to the western market.

The business is based in Edinburgh.  Heather has previously worked as an accountant and Bridget has been involved in many businesses over the years and worked in the areas of product design, marketing and PR.  Both bring their creative flair and experience to this new business.
